Southwest Airlines announced today that it will offer double points, this fall, to all their frequent passengers who fligh in and out of Pheonix, Denver and Baltimore.
The offer, which was designed to increase travellers before the holiday season, applies to ticket bought today for travel through November 7.
Travellers who want to boost their frequent flier balances must sign up for the promotion here.
If you are out of luck an already booked a flight previous today, you should cancel your ticket and rebook. (FYI: Southwest doesn’t charge an extra fee for a change or cancelation). That will only be on you benefit, unless the ticket price increases.
Southwest Airlines has, dramatically, changed its Rapid Rewards programme this year.
Instead of awarding members one flight credit per flight, the airline now awards frequent flier points, based on a multiplier of the airfare paid. Book a last minute flight for this weekend, from Pheonix to Las Vegas, and you’ll receive 2,484 points. Book the cheapest flight for an early October weekend, and you’ll earn 354 points each way.
Redeeming free tickets work the same way: last minute flights require the most points; advanced booking or low demand times require the fewest points.
